With the official groundbreaking ceremony, Opel and Stellantis Germany, together with the project developer VGP, have given the go-ahead for the construction of the new grEEn Campus in Rüsselsheim. The site on Mainzer Straße will in future house Opel’s global headquarters as well as Stellantis’ German headquarters. Guests at the symbolic launch included representatives of Opel and Stellantis – among them Opel CEO Florian Huettl – VGP, and Rüsselsheim’s Lord Mayor, Patrick Burghardt.
Modern workplaces
The grEEn Campus in Rüsselsheim forms part of the Group’s Europe-wide sustainability strategy. Similar sites are being developed not only in Germany but also in Poissy (France) and Mirafiori (Italy). VGP is developing the grEEn Campus on a site covering around 100,000 square metres. Plans include a five-storey administrative building with around 22,500 square metres for the headquarters, a research and development building with a design centre covering 28,800 square metres, and a multi-storey car park with 54,800 square metres.

The new headquarters will offer modern, flexible working environments and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. In the research and development areas, prototypes and next-generation vehicle concepts will be created in future. DGNB Gold certification is being sought for the entire campus – clear evidence of the project’s sustainable construction methods and energy efficiency.
